On Friday, the US assassinated top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, who was widely viewed because the second most powerful figure in Iran. The move sparked concerns for a possible ‘World War 3’, with many worried a declaration of war between the US and Iran might be imminent. On Wednesday quite a dozen missiles which were launched from Iran hit two air bases, Irbil and Al Asad.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the attack was in retaliation for the death of Soleimani on Friday.
A statement read: "We are warning all American allies, who gave their bases to its terrorist army, that any territory that's the start line of aggressive acts against Iran are going to be targeted."
While the US considered Soleimani a terrorist liable for the deaths of the many Americans, for several Iranians he was a national hero.
Hundreds of thousands of individuals attended his funeral on Monday, and a minimum of 40 people were killed during a stampede during the procession, with others injured.
